Admissions

FIRST ADMISSIONS FOR 4 YEAR OLDS A child has a legal right to be admitted to a school full-time at the start of the school term following his or her fifth birthday. Somerset’s policy is to admit children to school in the academic year that they become 5 (i.e. the September after their fourth birthday). Attendance at Kingsmoor will aim to start full time as soon as possible. We aim for the first full week back at school. This can depend on when the INSET days are scheduled and the annual school calendar. We aim to work with our parents to ensure each, individual child is transitioned into school-life in an appropriate manner for them. Part-time attendance in the initial stages may be required for certain pupils, dependent on their age and needs. This will be a conversation between the class teacher, head teacher and parent to ensure the best possible transition. If the number of applications for places at Kingsmoor exceeds our Planned Admission Limit the Admission Criteria will be applied in strict order to decide how places can be offered. Kingsmoor is allocated 25 pupil places each year (PAN). |
IN YEAR ADMISSIONS Parents wishing to start their older child at school mid year should complete an admission form (copies available from the school). This will be considered by the School and the Local Authority and a place granted if the school has places. |

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE ADMISSION OF PUPILS WITH DISABILITIES
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a persons ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act. The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is the Governors' policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish and individual needs are planned for, to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice we ensure that classroom and extra curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils.
