Social Contracts - Results

The results have been decided! Everyone has now chosen the posters which will be displayed in their areas and these are shown below.
All the other posters will be placed around the school for everyone to enjoy.

HOME ACTIVITY: Perhaps the parents would like to do a similar poster at home with their children, using different acronyms? (Family Rules, Home Rules), etc. They could then email into the school via the home learning email to share with everyone.

What a wonderful word

The Year 4 children studied the song 'What a Wonderful World' - by Louis Armstrong and then wrote their own lyrics about things that made their world's wonderful, using expanded noun phrases. Attached are some examples of their songs for you to enjoy.

Social Contracts

For the first 3 weeks of term - the whole school has focussed on a book by Oliver Jeffers called 'Here We Are'. The book is beautifully illustrated and written in simple language which allows children of all ages to reflect and make sense of the world that they are living in and their role in it.
Focussing on the social aspect of school, the Year 4s produced some 'Social Contracts' for Kingsmoor and their classroom. They then arranged these rules using different acronyms related to the school and our own classroom.

Over the next few days, each class (and their teacher) will choose their favourite poster to display in their classrooms and adopt as their own set of 'class rules'. Mrs Warren will also be choosing a poster to be displayed on the main door of reception as an example of the values that Kingsmoor School hold. The final choices will be announced by next Friday (9th October) so watch this space!

Yr 4 Debate

Today the Year 4 children took part in a class debate.

They were presented with the picture 'Save our Habitat' and were asked the question, 'Should humans be allowed to continue to destroy habitats?'

After an in depth discussion the children decided if they wanted to 'Propose' or 'Oppose' the motion.
The debate took place with all children contributing well, resulting in a passionate discussion. After over an hour, the debate was concluded and the children had a vote. The 'Opposers' won the vote but all children reported that they thoroughly enjoyed the process. Well done Year 4!

Year 4 Green Week - Rag Mats

This week our class made some 'Rag Mats' made out of old clothing, using hand-made cardboard weaving frames. Despite some initial difficulties the children showed great resilience and determination in helping each other to complete their mats.

Year 4 Green Week - Green Lunchboxes

The Y4 children embraced the 'Green lunchboxes' challenge by seeing who had the most environmentally friendly lunch.

Year 4 Science

States of Matter. The children were taken outside to become the 3 states of matter (solids, liquids and gases). Each child pretended to be a particle and they investigated how these particles move and group together, when affected by heating (or cooling) as they change state.

Year 4 Maths

The children were asked to estimate 'by rounding to 10, 100 and 1000' real-life problems. Problems involved estimating the amounts of resources (and sweets) needed in the classroom which needed solving using the 4 operations of maths (+, -, x and divide).

Class 5 Brunel

This term we are focusing on Brunel and how his engineering skills have had a huge impact on the UK and the world.

We’re looking forward to our trip!
