Religious Education Curriculum Statement

Intent

At Kingsmoor Primary, the RE curriculum is an enquiry based model which develops children’s critical thinking skills, motivation to learn and knowledge and understanding of different religions, cultures and their beliefs. Our approach is based upon the philosophy that children are free to make their own choices and decisions regarding religion and beliefs.
Through the RE curriculum, we aim to foster an awareness of British Values, and promote our core values of kindness, respect, resilience and tolerance of others and knowledge of our own society and the wider world (SMSC).
We take pride in forming close links with our community and the church which we incorporate into our cross-curricular planning.

As a Religious Scholar we will demonstrate:

  • An outstanding level of religious understanding and knowledge.
  • A thorough engagement with a range of ultimate questions about the meaning and significance of existence.
  • The ability to ask significant and highly reflective questions about religion and demonstrate an excellent understanding of issues related to the nature, truth and value of religion.
  • A strong understanding of how the beliefs, values, practices and ways of life within any religion cohere together.
  • Exceptional independence; the ability to think for themselves and take the initiative in, for example, asking questions, carrying out investigations, evaluating ideas and working constructively with others.
  • Significant levels of originality, imagination or creativity, which are shown in their responses to their learning in RE.
  • The ability to link the study of religion and belief to personal reflections on meaning and purpose.
  • A wide knowledge and deep understanding across a wide range of religions and beliefs.
Kingsmoor's RE curriculum follows the Somerset framework, specific units delivered from the NATRE syllabus. See Progression map below.

Parental right to withdraw from Religious Education

At Kingsmoor Primary School, we recognise that parents have a legal right to withdraw their child from all, or part of Religious education if they wish. We encourage parents to discuss any questions or concerns about the RE curriculum with the school before making a decision, so that we can provide information and support.  If you decide to withdraw your child from RE, please contact the Headteacher via the school office to make suitable arrangements for provision during this time.
